A driver from Angarsk was sentenced for fatally hitting a pensioner.

A court in the Irkutsk region has sentenced a 40-year-old driver from the city of Angarsk, who drove onto the sidewalk and killed a 90-year-old woman. This is reported by the city prosecutor's office.

The hit-and-run occurred on March 29, 2025, near the intersection of Herzen and Kirov streets. The driver of a Nissan Leaf electric car was driving along a snow-covered one-way street. In the area of house 5 in the 49th block, he lost control, drove onto the sidewalk and hit a pedestrian.

As a result of the collision, a 90-year-old woman was seriously injured. It was not possible to save her, she died in an emergency hospital.

The court found him guilty under Part 3 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Violation of traffic rules that negligently caused the death of a person" and sentenced him to three years in prison to be served in a penal colony with the deprivation of a driver's license for two years.

According to IA IrkutskMedia, the motorist also admitted his guilt and paid the grandson of the deceased woman 100 thousand rubles.

Earlier in August, it was reported that a man who killed a pedestrian in 2017 had been transferred from the United States to Irkutsk. He was wanted through Interpol channels.
