The renovation of the facades of the National Hotel on Mokhovaya Street has begun in Moscow. This was announced on Wednesday, August 27, on the website of the Moscow City Hall.

According to the head of the Moscow City Heritage Alexei Yemelyanov, the building is an example of eclecticism and at the beginning of the 20th century was considered the most prestigious and modern hotel in Moscow.

Restorers will clean the plaster, paint, stucco and forged elements, restore the granite of the basement and renovate the drains. The work is planned to be completed in 2026, Moscow 24 notes.

All processes are under the control of the Moscow City Heritage: a tour tower is used on the lower floors, and climbers on the upper floors.

The hotel opened in 1902 and was immediately distinguished by its modern facilities: elevators, telephones in the rooms and unique architectural solutions. Over the years, the building was used as a hotel and as the House of Soviets, and today it retains stained glass windows, fireplaces, antiques and interior elements from the early 20th century, including majolica panels and decorative moldings, the Moscow City News Agency reports.

In July, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, said that the restoration of architectural masterpieces, unique monuments familiar to citizens, continues in the city. In particular, work has begun on the facades of the ancient eclectic-style building of the Prechistenskaya pharmacy, which is associated with the dynasty of famous Forbricher pharmacists, NSN notes.
