The court rejected the petition for the release of Russian basketball player Daniil Kasatkin, without specifying the motivation for its decision. On August 27, the athlete's lawyer, Frederic Belo, told Izvestia about this.

"The Investigative Chamber rejected our request for release. She did not specify the motivation for her decision, which is an exceptional case. I paid special attention to this. Therefore, we do not know why our request was rejected. We won't know about this until three days later," Belo said.

According to him, the athlete's side regrets this court decision, since Kasatkin provided all the guarantees that justify his release. The lawyer stressed that at the moment, notification is expected from the Prosecutor General's Office on the issuance of an American extradition request.

"Then we will prepare our defense, taking into account the evidence presented in support of the extradition request," he concluded.

Kasatkin's detention in France became known on July 9 at the request of the United States. According to his lawyer, Frederic Belo, the Russian is probably accused of extortion due to the use of his computer by intruders. On July 11, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Paris Court of Appeal informed Izvestia that the United States has 60 days to provide materials on the basketball player's extradition request.

On July 10, the Russian Embassy in France requested consular access to the athlete, but it was not provided due to the position of the authorities. However, on July 16, the permit was received.

Later, on August 27, the judge announced during a hearing in Paris that Kasatkin, who was detained in France, could face up to 25 years in prison under two articles. The athlete denies all charges against him. On the same day, Russian basketball player Daniil Kasatkin's request for release under judicial supervision was rejected.
