The Eurotroika countries (Great Britain, France and Germany) are likely to begin the process of restoring sanctions against Iran due to accusations of violating the nuclear deal. This was reported on August 27 by the Reuters news agency, citing sources.

However, European countries hope that Iran will provide commitments on its nuclear program within 30 days, which will allow postponing the adoption of concrete actions.

"The talks [between European countries and representatives of Iran] on Tuesday did not lead to sufficiently tangible commitments on the part of Iran, although they [Reuters sources] believe that there are opportunities for further diplomacy in the coming weeks," the publication says.

If sanctions are reinstated, they will affect the financial, banking, oil and defense sectors of the Islamic Republic. The United Nations (UN) process to restore restrictions will take 30 days.

"Real negotiations will begin as soon as the letter [to the UN Security Council] is submitted," an unnamed Western diplomat told the agency.

A representative of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to Reuters that the return of sanctions remains a possible option for European countries. Tehran, in turn, warned that if sanctions were restored, it would give a "tough response," the agency writes.

The day before, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that the Islamic Republic and the Eurotroika countries had held another round of negotiations on the nuclear issue in Geneva. He added that Tehran continues to insist on finding a mutually beneficial diplomatic solution. Gharibabadi also noted that it is time for European countries to make the right decision and resolve the nuclear issue with Iran through diplomacy.

On the same day, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that Tehran was ready to resume indirect talks with Washington on its nuclear program if it received guarantees that the attack on the country by the United States and Israel would not happen again. He added that Tehran must be confident in the honesty and fairness of the negotiations.
