The introduction of US sanctions against NIS (Oil Industry of Serbia) has been postponed for another month. This was announced on August 27 on the website of the Ministry of Mining and Energy of Serbia.

According to the agency, the new postponement will last until September 26. Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Jedovic-Handanovic noted that "NIS will continue to ensure stable supply of oil and petroleum products to the national market."

The head of the department stressed that the main goal of the government is to exclude the company from the sanctions list. It is specified that this is the sixth postponement for the corporation.

Earlier, on June 27, Djedovic-Handanovic said that the Serbian authorities had sent a letter to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury with a request to postpone the imposition of sanctions against the Oil Industry of Serbia company and extend the license for another 180 days after the end of the previous period. Then the head of the department explained that the appeal to OFAC was made to ensure the stability of oil and petroleum products supplies to the domestic market.,

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on January 5 that in the event of sanctions from the American side, the country is ready to buy out the Russian stake in NIS. He added that if the company's value is €1 billion, then the share can be bought out for about €600 million.
