Italy considers the killing of journalists as a result of an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) strike on a hospital in the northern Gaza Strip to be an unacceptable attack on media freedom. This was announced on August 27 by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at a political forum in Rimini, which was broadcast on the website of the Government of the Republic.

"This is an unacceptable attack on the freedom of the press and on all those who bravely risk their lives covering the tragedy of the war," Meloni said.

She noted that, despite Israel's support, it is impossible to remain silent about the killing of innocents.

Earlier, on August 25, the IDF attacked the Nasser Hospital, which killed 14 people, including five journalists. It is clarified that among the dead are Reuters photojournalist Hossam al-Masri, Al Jazeera photojournalist Mohammed Salama, a journalist for several media outlets, including The Independent Arabic and The Associated Press, Mariam Abu Daka, and NBC network journalist Moaz Abu Taha.

On August 26, journalists from various Arab media held a solidarity rally in Gaza City. During the action, the need for international legal protection was emphasized for members of the press in the Gaza Strip who "record the crimes of the Israeli occupation with their cameras and lenses."
