In Ukraine, an increase in online casino-related requests was reported on the Internet

In the summer of 2025, the number of Internet requests related to online casinos and betting has increased dramatically in Ukraine, with most of them coming from settlements where the Armed Forces of Ukraine are stationed, the Ukrainian newspaper Ekonomicheskaya Pravda writes.

"According to the search queries of the last three months (May-August), which were analyzed by journalists, the greatest interest in online casinos was recorded in the Kiev region (especially in the north of the region), as well as in the east (Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Sumy regions), where many military units and permanent deployment points are located. landfills, hospitals and rehabilitation centers," the article says.

According to the publication, the "significant presence of military personnel" in these regions "suggests" that a new boom in online gambling is associated with them.

Ekonomicheskaya Pravda recognizes that the growing interest of Ukrainians in gambling is happening "contrary to official bans and campaigns" that the authorities tried to implement in 2024.

On April 20, 2024, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree restricting the operation of online casinos and online gambling in the country. By decree, he put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine, which, among other things, provides for the restriction of online casino advertising and the setting of limits on the time of games and the cost of them.
