Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan: there may be more dead climbers in the area of Victory Peak

There may be more dead climbers in the area of Victory Peak in Kyrgyzstan. This was announced on August 27 by the press secretary of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the country, Adil Charygov.

"Unofficially there (in the area of Victory Peak. — Ed.) even more bodies [of the dead]. Therefore, we will work together with the Interior Ministry, we will provide the necessary information that we have," he said in an interview with TASS.

Charygov added that the Ministry of Emergency Situations is currently raising a database to clarify the number of dead climbers.

In addition, according to him, Russian climber Natalia Nagovitsina has now been declared missing, since no one can confirm her life or death.

The fact that 47-year-old Nagovitsina was stuck at Victory Peak became known on August 19. She broke her leg during the descent and has been at altitude for about two weeks. Vera Belikova, the administrator of the Karkira base camp, called the climber a very strong and calm person. She has already had experience of climbing mountain peaks in the past, and many climbers know her.

Later, on August 23, it became known that the Italian climber Luca Sinigaglia, who tried to save Nagovitsina, suffered frostbite on his right hand and subsequently died of cerebral edema. On the same day, the head of the mountaineering base camp, Dmitry Grekov, announced the completion of the rescue operation at that time. On August 25, Kyrgyz climber Nail Muratov announced that evacuation attempts could resume no earlier than July 2026.

On August 26, Alexey Ovchinniko, senior coordinator of the mountaineering public group, director of the Autonomous Non-Profit Organization Higher Mountain School, Candidate of Medical Sciences, announced that Nagovitsina was next to the climber who died 10 years ago. According to him, this case is not the first time when attempts are being made to lower bodies from Victory Peak, but it does not work.
