The Interior Ministry warned about a new scheme of fraud with electronic diaries
To steal money from Russians, fraudsters began using the need to update or link a phone number to an electronic diary. This was announced on August 27 by the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Telegram channel.
"Recently, cases have become more frequent when intruders use the need to update or link a phone number to an electronic diary as a reason to appeal to citizens. Under this pretext, they convince the victim to provide access to confidential information, which later leads to serious consequences," the publication says.
It is noted that the attackers contact the victims using messengers and introduce themselves as employees of educational institutions or technical support services. Fraudsters tell victims that in order for the electronic diary to work correctly, they need to confirm their phone number, update their data, or activate their account. Subsequently, scammers request codes from SMS or send them to a phishing resource. After fraudsters gain access to the data, they can log into Gosuslug's personal accounts, online banking, and other services.
"To protect against such schemes, it is important to remember that official representatives of educational institutions never request SMS codes, passwords, or passport information over the phone," the department noted.
Earlier, on August 26, the UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported that fraudsters began to deceive sellers under the guise of "checking terminals." So, the attacker called the store's director and convinced him to transfer 60 thousand rubles from his personal account to the specified card. The fraudster promised that the funds would be "returned in 15-20 minutes" and asked to send a check for payment via a file sharing service.
