A new criminal case on illegal possession of weapons has been opened against former Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, who was sentenced to 13 years for embezzlement and withdrawal of funds from the Intercommerce bank. This was reported to TASS on August 27 by a law enforcement source.
"Another criminal case has been opened against Timur Ivanov on the grounds of a crime under Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal possession of weapons"). He has not been officially informed about this, but he previously provided explanations on this fact," the source said.
It is specified that a total of 26 weapons were found in the house of the former deputy head of the Ministry of Defense. At the same time, the source noted that Ivanov illegally kept two converted Cedar self-loading carbines, a revolver, a dueling pistol and a converted Stechkin automatic pistol (APS). These weapons were seized during the investigative actions.
On August 21, it was reported that the Presnensky Court of Moscow would consider the claim of the Prosecutor General's Office (GP) of the Russian Federation on the conversion of movable and immovable property of the former Deputy Minister of Defense with a total value of 1.2 billion rubles to the state income. It is specified that from 2016 to 2024, the income of Ivanov and his wife, with whom he was married until 2022, amounted to 274.8 million rubles.
On July 1, Ivanov was sentenced to 13 years in a penal colony. In addition, he needs to pay a fine, the amount of which is 100 million rubles. In addition, the former deputy minister was stripped of his state award and the title of Honored Builder of the Russian Federation. The court sentenced the second person involved in the case, Ivanov's ex-subordinate Anton Filatov, to 12.5 years in a general regime colony and a fine of 25 million rubles.
The former deputy minister was detained on April 23, 2024. Ivanov is charged with accepting a bribe in the amount of 1,185 billion rubles. According to the investigation, he entered into a criminal conspiracy with the heads of contractors who worked at the facilities of the Ministry of Defense. Ivanov signed contracts with them in exchange for a personal reward.
