Boris Chernyshov, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma (DG) from the Liberal Democratic Party, sent an appeal to Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, with a request to consider a proposal to introduce an annual payment of one base salary to all teachers on Knowledge Day. This became known on August 27.

"I ask you to consider the possibility of legislating at the federal level an annual lump sum payment by Knowledge Day (September 1) to all teaching staff (including those in the field of additional education) in the amount of one basic salary," RIA Novosti cites the contents of the official appeal.

This initiative is expected to be a public demonstration of government appreciation for teachers and enhance the prestige of the profession. In addition, it is noted that the payment may help attract talented young people to the ranks of teachers.

"Our teachers deserve to receive a significant gift from the state, which will make them feel like the main character of this special day, for example, to please themselves with a new outfit for the festive line or a good book," Chernyshov said.

According to him, the proposed bill would be a "direct investment" in quality education and a sustainable future for Russia.

A day earlier, a bill on providing annual payments to families with children before September 1 was submitted to the State Duma. According to the published text of the draft law, payments will be provided to those families where there are children studying in the territory of the Russian Federation in basic educational programs.
