Cybersecurity specialist Alexey Lukatsky warned that Google Meet and Microsoft Teams services are no different from other messengers, so they can also be used by fraudsters to deceive citizens.

In conversation with aif.ru On Tuesday, August 26, the expert said that the risks in Google Meet and Microsoft Teams are the same as in any other messenger. According to him, through these services, attackers can call citizens and mislead them, forcing them to transfer money, provide keywords, passwords or one-time codes to access "Public Services."

He stressed that the feature is the widespread use of Google Meet, as it is pre-installed on Android devices. This is probably why the service has recently been blocked, although no one has officially confirmed this.

As for Microsoft Teams, as the expert explained, it needs to be installed separately, it is more difficult to use it, since it is primarily a corporate tool, and not a means for personal communication.

On August 23, the Interior Ministry announced a new fraudulent scheme using the Google Meet app.

The agency also noted a sharp increase in international calls from scammers via traditional cellular communications. Thus, the number of such unwanted calls increased by 83%, according to 360.ru . Experts explained the scammers' interest in this application by the fact that it is pre-installed on most Android smartphones, and scammers do not have to persuade the victim to install an "unknown application," the website writes. kp.ru . Restrictions on voice calls in foreign messengers blocked one of the main communication channels for scammers, but they began to look for workarounds — for example, to use the Google Meet service to deceive, NSN reports.

On the same day, it was reported that the scammers had developed a new two-step scheme: first, they call on behalf of telecom operators, talking about "replacing lines," and a few days later they introduce themselves as law enforcement officers or the Central Bank and claim that the victim's voice has already been copied to access her accounts, IA Regnum reports.

On August 22, Roskomnadzor announced that no restrictive measures had been taken against Google Meet, writes RT.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
