Trump adviser Navarro criticized Bolton for disclosing classified information
US President Donald Trump's adviser Peter Navarro has accused former national security adviser John Bolton of "profiting from America's secrets" after conducting searches of his home and office. Navarro wrote about this in a column for The Hill newspaper on August 26.
Trump's adviser criticized Bolton for the information published in his 2020 book, "The Room Where It Happened."
"When Bolton wrote his book, The Room Where It Happened, <...> he wasn't just sharing rumors. <...> He was sharing information about conversations in the Oval Office and national security that should have remained secret, either by law or under executive privilege," he wrote. Navarro.
He also recalled the comments of federal judge Royce Lambert from 2020, who noted that he could not prevent the publication of Bolton's book, since "the horse has already run out of the stable."
Navarro pointed to specific examples from Bolton's book that, in his opinion, overstepped the bounds. He highlighted descriptions of discussions about the regime of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and a story about what NATO allies said behind closed doors.
"This is not a service. This is not patriotism. This is profiting from America's secrets," Navarro stressed.
The New York Post reported on August 22 that agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had raided John Bolton's home in Maryland. The publication wrote that an investigation into secret documents was launched against Bolton, and this happened several years ago, but the administration of former American leader Joe Biden closed it "for political reasons."
A day later, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance confirmed that the Trump administration had launched an investigation into Bolton's actions. He added that the case could end without charges if no violations were identified.
