The Chinese company BYD has announced that its Yangwang U9 hypercar was able to accelerate to 472.41 km/h, making the model the fastest electric car in the world. This was reported by CarNewsChina on August 26.

For comparison, the top speed of the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ gasoline hypercar, considered one of the fastest production cars in the world, is 490 km/h. At the same time, if hypercars like Bugatti cost more than 10 million yuan (from $ 1.4 million), then the Chinese electric car is much cheaper and costs about 1.68 million yuan ($ 232.5 thousand).

According to <url> Magazine, the record was set using a prototype of the new U9 Track Edition modification, which is designed for racing trips. The power plant of the model consists of four electric motors and develops over 3,000 horsepower.

It is noted that, despite BYD's statement, technically such a Yangwang U9 is not the fastest electric car on the planet. Since 2016, the record (549.4 km/h) has been held by a prototype built by engineers at Ohio State University. However, if the American prototype Venturi Buckeye Bullet 3 was built solely to set a record in a straight line, the BYD model is a full-fledged passenger car.

Earlier that day, it was reported that Nissan had planned to discontinue production of the GT-R sports car in the R35 body, which had been on the assembly line since 2007. In 18 years, 48 thousand such cars have been sold.
