Nissan has discontinued the iconic GT-R model.
Nissan has scheduled the discontinuation of the GT-R sports car in the R35 body, which has been on the assembly line since 2007. Over 18 years, 48,000 such vehicles have been sold, the company's press service reported on August 26.
The last copy of the Nissan GT-R, produced at the factory in Japan, was a sports car in the T-Spec Premium Edition in Midnight Purple. It is intended for the domestic market.
The Nissan GT-R was equipped with a 3.8-liter turbocharged V6, which, depending on the modification, produced 480 hp to 608 hp, and an all-wheel drive system. The car was remembered not only for its high speed on the German Nurburgring race track, but also for its successful performances in motorsport, and also became part of the car culture thanks to racing movies and tuners. At one time, the GT-R was officially sold in Russia.
According to the head of Nissan, Ivan Espinosa, in the future the company plans to release a new generation of GT-R, but he is not ready to give even approximate dates for the return of the sports car to the market.
"We understand that expectations are high. The GT-R badge can't be attached to any car, it's designed for something really special, and the R35 has set the bar high. Therefore, I can only ask for your patience. Although we don't have a clear plan [for the model] today, the GT-R will evolve and come back again," Espinosa said.
Earlier that day, sales of the Tenet T4 compact crossover started in Russia. The model enters the market in two trim levels priced from 2.22 million and 2.35 million rubles, respectively.
