Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov on his 75th birthday and noted his contribution to the development of a unified history textbook. This was announced on Tuesday, August 26, on the Kremlin's website.
"Over the years of fruitful activity, you have fully realized your scientific, research, and organizational potential, and have written bright pages in the history of Russian diplomacy, MGIMO University, and Russian higher education in general," the president said in a statement.
According to him, thanks to Torkunov's professional experience, deep knowledge and inexhaustible energy, MGIMO is developing and holds the bar high as one of the most reputable centers for training specialists in the field of international relations.
On August 16, Putin awarded Torkunov the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, first class. The Rector of MGIMO was awarded for his outstanding contribution to the development of Russian education and long-term scientific and teaching activities.
