The doctor warned about the main health risks with the onset of autumn
With the onset of cold weather, human health is subjected to additional challenges. As explained by Elena Aleksentseva, pediatrician and general practitioner of INVITRO, in an interview with Izvestia on August 26, sudden changes in temperature and pressure, high humidity and reduced daylight hours create a serious strain on the body.
According to her, people with chronic diseases are especially vulnerable during this period.
"Patients with cardiovascular problems react most acutely to the autumn weather. Contrasts of temperature and atmospheric pressure can cause blood pressure spikes in hypertensive patients, weakness, headaches and nausea. In people with coronary heart disease, a cold snap can trigger a spasm of the coronary arteries and an attack of angina pectoris," the doctor warned.
The respiratory system is also under attack — high humidity and hypothermia make it easier for viruses to spread and weaken local immunity. This leads to exacerbations of chronic ENT diseases and bronchopulmonary pathologies. Gastrointestinal problems are also not left out: returning to a work routine and stress can cause relapses of gastritis or gastroduodenitis.
In autumn, mental disorders also worsen — depressive and anxiety states increase against the background of shortened daylight hours and disrupted circadian rhythms.
To maintain health during this period, the expert recommends following the daily routine and taking sufficient time to recover. The key elements of prevention are a full 7-8-hour sleep, regular breaks for relaxation, balanced nutrition and timely visits to the doctor for chronic diseases," Aleksentseva recalled.
If you feel unwell, you should not delay contacting a specialist, she added.
Olga Tsagaraeva, a pulmonologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), told Izvestia on April 22 that suffocation, difficulty exhaling and "whistling" when breathing are symptoms of asthma. However, this disease can also manifest itself through coughing.
