- The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan has launched a preliminary investigation into the case of mountaineer Nagovitsina
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan is conducting a pre-investigation check on the case of Russian climber Natalia Nagovitsina, who was trapped on Victory Peak. This was announced to Izvestia on August 26 by the head of the press service of the republic's Interior Ministry, police Colonel Sultan Makilov.
"A pre-investigation check is currently underway. Based on the results of the audit, the issue of whether or not to initiate criminal proceedings will be resolved. At the moment, only a pre—investigation check is underway," Makilov said.
Dmitry Grekov, the head of the mountaineering base camp, announced on August 23 that the operation to rescue the climber had been completed to date. He added that not a single person had been evacuated from Victory Peak since 1955. Later, on August 25, the head of the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan, Adil Chargynov, clarified that new attempts to rescue the Russian woman could be initiated by mountaineering federations and Nagovitsyna's relatives.
The fact that 47-year-old Nagovitsina was stuck at Victory Peak was reported on August 19 in the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan. She broke her leg during the descent and has been at altitude for about two weeks. Vera Belikova, the administrator of the Karkyr base camp, said that Nagovitsina is a very strong and calm person. She has already had experience of climbing mountain peaks in the past, and many climbers know her.
