Trump threatened the EU with duties due to "discrimination" of American technologies
US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose duties on European countries such as France, Italy and Spain that "discriminate" against American IT companies. This was reported on August 26 by The Guardian newspaper.
The US president believes that digital taxes, laws and regulations are aimed at harming or discriminating against American technologies. He threatened to impose duties and export restrictions on countries whose regulations are directed against large American technology companies.
"As president of the United States, I will stand up to countries that attack our incredible American technology companies," Trump said.
The European Union, in turn, separately stated that it had not committed itself to changing any digital rules.
On the eve of August 25, the American leader announced that he intends to impose additional duties on advanced technologies and semiconductors from those states that have imposed taxes on digital services. According to the head of the White House, digital taxes open the way for the largest technology manufacturers from China, so they need to be "put an end to."
