Apple has told the Indian government that it will not reduce investments and production facilities in India, despite the demands of American President Donald Trump to produce equipment in the United States. This was reported by The Times of India on August 26.

"The executives of [Apple] have informed us that there will be no changes in the plans for investments in India. Expansion plans will continue as previously planned," the newspaper quoted an Indian official as saying.

Apple highly values India's manufacturing environment, noting the quality of production, production facilities and infrastructure as "among the best in the world," according to the publication's report. Sources of the publication note that the company has already begun assembling the iPhone 17, which will soon be introduced in India.

The company is allocating about $2.5 billion to expand iPhone production capacity, which will increase productivity from more than 40 million to 60 million devices per year. A significant part of the products is intended for export, in particular to the USA.

On May 23, Trump threatened Apple with 25% tariffs on any iPhones sold but not manufactured in the country.

The Apple Insider portal estimated in July that the tariffs imposed by Trump would result in costs for Apple and could cost almost $2 billion.
