- Bloomberg pointed to India's unwillingness to abandon the purchase of Russian oil because of the United States
India's public and private companies are not going to completely abandon the purchase of oil from Russia, despite the introduction of trade duties by the United States. This was reported by Bloomberg on August 26, citing sources.
"Refineries in India, one of the largest buyers of Russian crude oil, plan to reduce purchases in the coming weeks, which is a modest concession to Washington hawks less than a day before the increase in US duties, but also a signal that the country has no plans to sever relations with Moscow," the article says.
According to the newspaper, it is expected that state and private refiners from India will purchase 1.4–1.6 million barrels of Russian oil per day. At the same time, in the first half of 2025, the average was 1.8 million barrels per day. India currently accounts for 37% of Russia's oil exports.
Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on August 23 that the United States and the European Union accuse India of buying Russian oil, but at the same time they continue to buy fossil fuels from the republic. In his opinion, if Western countries are experiencing problems with the purchase of oil or petroleum products from India, then they should simply abandon this.
On August 6, US President Donald Trump signed a decree imposing an additional 25% duty on imports from India. The White House clarified that this measure was introduced in connection with India's "direct or indirect" imports of petroleum products from the Russian Federation.
