Escalators and travelators may be stopped in shopping malls from September 1.
Starting from September 1 of this year, owners of shopping malls and commercial real estate may face some problems in the operation of escalators and travelators. This was reported by Kommersant on August 26.
The reason for the possible suspension of work is the inability to carry out a technical inspection according to the new rules. This actually means the need to temporarily limit the operation of the equipment.
It is clarified that on August 21, the Union of Shopping Centers of the Russian Federation appealed to the head of Rostechnadzor, Alexander Trembitsky, with a request to clarify the possibility of using escalators and travelators after September 1. Rostechnadzor, in turn, reported that the appeal had been received and sent for consideration.
All certificates on the technical condition of escalators and travelators that were issued before September 1 of the previous year will expire on the first day of next month. The corresponding provision is fixed in the rules of operation of this type of equipment from 2024. The new rules require an annual technical inspection at all facilities except the subway.
In the letter, the STC noted that after the introduction of new standards, the old system was abolished, but the new one was never created.
On August 19, the press service of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Sverdlovsk region reported that a young child in Yekaterinburg had suffered an arm injury on an escalator in a shopping center. A criminal case has been opened on this incident under the article on the provision of services that do not meet security requirements.
