- By the end of 2025, 26 new kindergartens and 30 schools will open in St. Petersburg.
From the beginning of the new academic year until the end of 2025, 26 kindergartens and 30 schools will open in St. Petersburg. This was announced on August 25 by the governor of the region, Alexander Beglov, during a working meeting with members of state educational organizations.
"On September 1, 27 new schools and 26 kindergartens will receive children. As in previous years, they were built according to the "Petersburg" standard — with a powerful sports core, laboratories, spacious classrooms, media libraries, swimming pools, and creative venues. <...> By the end of the year, the city will receive not 27, but 30 new schools," reads a statement posted on the website of the city administration.
Beglov noted that St. Petersburg is currently in the "vanguard" of solving the task set by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has repeatedly stressed the importance of accessibility and quality of education for the successful development of the country.
According to the governor, 60,000 first-graders were enrolled in educational institutions in the coming academic year, and the administration prepared gifts for them. At the same time, a total of 619,000 children are enrolled in schools, which is 25,000 more than in 2024. In total, about 1 million pupils and students will arrive at St. Petersburg kindergartens, schools and colleges this academic year.
In addition, Beglov said, the city government has approved a Roadmap for continuing to improve the regional education system, which will allow the younger generation to focus on obtaining technical specialties within the framework of secondary and higher professional education. The governor also instructed to update and adapt educational programs to the needs of innovative sectors of the economy.
On August 19, Putin noted the importance of the fact that Russian pedagogy is different, which is expressed in a multifaceted and versatile approach. The President stressed that in the future it is necessary to take into account the best traditions of both pre-revolutionary, Soviet, and modern schools. He called for updating the content of curricula and paying attention to the training of qualified teachers, which will create a "vibrant" education system.
