Cybersecurity experts reported fraud attacks on residents of the LPR and DPR

Scammers create fake websites where you can allegedly apply for a Russian biometric passport. This attack scheme is aimed, among other things, at residents of new regions — the Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics (LPR and DPR), experts from the Solar AURA Group's external digital threat monitoring center said on Monday, August 25.

"In this case, they spread fake news about the collection of data for biometric passports in order to collect personal data of Russians. This is another reminder of how important it is to be vigilant — to read news only from official sources and not to trust suspicious sites," said Alexander Vurasko, Director of Development at Solar AURA, in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

According to the expert, one of the discovered sites imitates the official portal of the government of the country. It reports on the collection of data of Russians for obtaining biometric passports by migration services. At the same time, the victim is asked to introduce himself, indicate his phone number, SNILS and information about the document he has already received. Two more similar sites are identical to the websites of the DPR and LPR governments.

Vurasco admitted that cybercriminals collect data to further deceive Russians through telephone fraud.

"After filling out the application, users will be contacted by "representatives of the migration service", who will ask them to dictate the SMS code, which will give scammers access to Telegram, WhatsApp (owned by a Meta—organization recognized as terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation. — Ed.), as well as to other messengers and popular state portals," Solar AURA experts noted.

Earlier in the day, the Central Bank of Russia announced that from September 1, Russians will be able to connect a "second-hand" service to protect themselves from fraudsters, IA Regnum reports.

Now you can entrust control over banking operations to a relative or friend, who will have the right to confirm or reject money transfers if they seem suspicious to him. At the same time, the assistant will not have access to the account, as well as the right to perform independent operations.

Earlier, the official representative of the department, Irina Volk, said that the Ministry of Internal Affairs had suppressed the activities of one of the largest resources in the Russian segment of the Internet with personal data of citizens used for the illegal dissemination of information.
