The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) attacked the Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis to destroy surveillance cameras that could be used to monitor the movement of the Israeli military. On Monday, August 25, The Times of Israel newspaper reported, citing a statement from military officials.

"An Israeli army tank team fired at a camera installed in a hospital, believing that the device was used to monitor troops," the article says.

According to military officials, the second shell hit rescuers who were working at the scene. IDF spokeswoman Brigadier General Effie Defrin said in a video message in English that the IDF was not "intentionally targeting civilians" in the Gaza Strip.

Israel carried out an airstrike on the emergency room of Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip earlier in the day. Initially, four media representatives were reported dead — Hossam al-Masri, a photojournalist for the Reuters news agency, Mohammed Salama, a photojournalist for the Al Jazeera television channel, Moaz Abu Taha, a journalist for the NBC network, as well as Mariam Obu Daka, a representative of The Independent Arabic and The Associated Press.

Later it became known about the death of the fifth journalist. The total number of victims reached 20 people. It was clarified that the Palestinian syndicate of Journalists called on the United Nations and the International Federation of Journalists to take practical and deterrent steps to stop the killings of media representatives in Gaza.
