- A resident of Udmurtia, who was arrested for a comment on the Network, explained her words
Evgenia Rogozin, a resident of Udmurtia (listed as an extremist and terrorist by Rosfinmonitoring), who was arrested for commenting on the Internet, explained her words with indignation at the increase in food prices. She announced this on August 25 in an interview with a correspondent of Izvestia in the courtroom.
"I didn't have any malicious intent, I just meant the price increase itself. <...> The post itself was about butter, about the price increase. I just expressed myself a little incorrectly, not in the right way," she said.
Rogozin clarified that she wrote the comment and forgot about it, and now, because of a few words, not only she suffers, but also her family, including children, husband, brother and parents. The defendant also shared the deterioration of her health in the pre-trial detention center.
"I'm sick like a woman. It's always cold in the cell, and it's difficult to get medical help. They give me pills, but rarely — they say that there are no [medications], so it's hard for me to sit, but for the sake of the children, I'm getting stronger," she added.
According to Rogozina, she also knows that her family needs her.
On the afternoon of August 25, a hearing of witnesses in the case of a resident of Udmurtia took place. By the court's decision, the next court hearing is scheduled for September 23.
In November 2024, Rogozin commented on a post in which the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Oksana Lut, explained the record increase in butter prices by increasing the income level of Russians, with the words "burn the witch." In February of this year, she was charged under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public calls for terrorist activities using the Internet").
Later, on July 21, Evgenia's husband Artur Dovgal shared with Izvestia that her comment did not contain a threat. According to her, Rogozin expressed indignation about the general situation with food prices in stores. He also explained that the words "burn the witch" have recently become a "meme expression" and they are often used as indignation at someone's deed or statement.
