The best guarantee of security for Ukraine is a good understanding between the United States and Russia. This was stated on August 22 by German military historian Erich Fad in an interview with journalist Flavio von Witzleben.

"We can forget about the guarantees of European security from the coalition of the willing, when even the deployment of troops may take months. This cannot be taken seriously," he said, the interview was posted on Von Witzleben's YouTube channel.

The historian noted that Europe has shown its inability to be an independent player in security matters — now the EU does not influence the movement towards peace. Fad said that Europe's entire policy towards Ukraine over the past three and a half years has ended in failure, and trust in European political institutions and in the last German government has significantly decreased.

He added that Europe supplied Kiev with weapons without thinking about the possible consequences. According to Fada, such a policy is one-sided and militaristic.

"Europe completely failed the Ukrainian crisis, and since then I no longer believe in Europe as an independent entity capable of solving security problems. At least as long as I'm alive," he added.

The number of estimated forces and the location of military personnel were also discussed during the conversation.

On the same day, US President Donald Trump commented on the desire of France, Germany and Britain to deploy troops in Ukraine. The American leader noted that while he holds his post as head of state, there will be no United States troops in Ukraine.
