In autumn, the number of phone calls from fake bankers will increase, predicts Yaroslav Ostudin, an entrepreneur, owner of a bank and insurance company, an expert on investments and financial risks. According to the expert, several actions available to everyone can block up to 90% of the threats of banking scams.

"The most popular way to 'cash in' on other people's savings remains phone calls, which is why citizens are constantly receiving calls from unknown or fake numbers. And the most reliable way to protect yourself from them is not to communicate. As the simplest measure, go to a phone detox. To protect against unwanted calls, install voice assistants that answer incoming calls, and call only those who need to be contacted personally," Ostudin said.

You can install a Russian anti-phishing antivirus on smartphones and computers, as well as connect a spam filter from a mobile operator that blocks calls from abroad. This will help reduce the number of unwanted calls. There are also special mobile applications that help you block a phone number by series.

In addition, it is necessary to make it a rule to always double-check suspicious calls from banks or government agencies. End the conversation and call back to the official numbers, require written confirmation of any information through the official channels of the bank. In addition, if you receive a call from the bank and the conversation seems strange, provide the phone number in the bank's official mobile application or on the website on the "Report fraud" page.

"You can enable SMS notifications about all account transactions and check your credit history at Gosuslugi or the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI) at least once a month for unauthorized credit requests or contracts executed in your name. This is a free service. And, as you know, through Gosuslugi or in the Multifunctional Center (MFC), you can impose a self—lock on loans," Ostudin said.

The expert noted that it is necessary to observe digital hygiene: never publish photos of documents, cards or receipts with QR codes and use a separate "clean" mailbox (email) exclusively for banks and public services, not connected with social networks or online purchases.

"We need to get rid of financial naivety. Real banks never ask to transfer money to "secure accounts" and do not request CVC code data, and official authorities do not interact through messengers. Following these simple rules will help you and your loved ones significantly reduce the number of fraudulent calls. Check, learn, block — three rules for saving bank savings and a positive salary card balance," sums up Ostudin.

Earlier, on August 23, it was reported that the attackers began using a new two-stage deception scheme to steal money from Russians. The victim is contacted by scammers disguised as an employee of a telecommunications company, who offers to switch to an alternative line with the number saved. After receiving the consent, the interlocutor promises to prepare and send the necessary documents.
