Young football players should understand the history of the sport they play, understand how football has developed since the Soviet Union, and know the outstanding players of the past. Dmitry Radchenko, ex-striker of Zenit and Spartak, shared this belief with Izvestia on August 25.

Earlier in the day, Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev called for raising the educational level of young football players, Sport-Express reports. He stressed that the players should "convey the meanings," and promised to develop a special list of books necessary for athletes.

Radchenko found this idea great. In his opinion, historical literature will be the most relevant for football players.

"First of all, our young people should know history, this is the most important thing. The history of sports, the history of our country," he explained.

As the president noted, it will be useful for athletes to learn about the role of football at all times. He gave an example of the history of football player Lev Yashin, as well as the history of this sport during the siege of Leningrad.

Earlier, on August 11, Degtyarev proposed introducing a salary cap for football players, as in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He stressed that football clubs in the Russian Federation should not have problems with excessive salary demands from Russian players due to the tightening of the limit on foreign players.
