The US Treasury has finally lifted sanctions against Syria
The US Treasury Department has published a final decision on the lifting of sanctions against Syria. The relevant document was posted on the agency's website on August 25.
"The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Treasury Department (OFAC) excludes sanctions against Syria from the Set of federal Rules," the statement reads.
It is specified that the relevant measure was taken in connection with the lifting of the state of emergency in the state on which the rules were based. This is also due to further changes in US policy towards Syria.
On June 30, US President Donald Trump signed a decree on the lifting of sanctions against Syria from July 1. The decision was made in order to support the State's path to stability and peace. The decree also allowed the easing of export controls on certain goods and lifted restrictions on the provision of foreign aid to Syria.
Later, on July 31, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the West's lifting of sanctions against Syria a move in the right direction. Among other things, he noted that Russia stands for the complete lifting of the restrictions imposed on the Syrian state.
