The Italian government, while continuing to refuse to send its peacekeepers to Ukraine, offered assistance in clearing mines in Ukrainian territories and waters. This was reported by the newspaper La Repubblica on August 25.

According to the publication, the Government of the Republic has notified its allies of its readiness to send naval and ground forces specialists to conduct mine clearance operations in Ukrainian waters and on land. We are talking about a "theoretical readiness" that can be realized after the conclusion of a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.

The newspaper notes that, given the large number of anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, as well as unexploded ordnance, mine clearance can affect up to 30% of Ukraine's territory.

Italy is ready to send minesweepers and auxiliary frigates for these purposes, as well as use military experts to work in mined areas.

On August 23, Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey Nariman Jalal said that Ankara was ready to send military personnel to the territory controlled by Kiev as part of providing security guarantees in the event of a peace agreement. He added that Turkish military personnel can take part in ground mine clearance.
