On the Chinese island of Hainan in Gadonghai Bay, tourists witnessed a typhoon that struck the resort city of Sanya. Details of the incident were shared with Izvestia on August 25 by Russian Evgeny Krylov, who was vacationing on the island with his family.

It is known that the day before the typhoon, the authorities blocked the entire coastline, and the police blocked access to the beaches. The tourist shared that the 36-storey building where he was located was swaying in the wind.

"These buildings are designed like this, they have to swing slowly, they are designed for this, because Sanya is the southernmost city in China," Krylov explained.

It is clarified that after the disaster, the city is recovering quickly: utilities are sawing down fallen trees, among which there are century-old specimens. The effects of the hurricane are visible everywhere — uprooted plants, damaged cars and motorcycles, torn off advertising structures and roof elements.

According to the Russian, there are no casualties among the people in his entourage.

"To be honest, my children were scared. But I reassure you, I say that the building was built for a reason, it must withstand such typhoons," the source added.

He also noted that local residents perceived the typhoon as an ordinary phenomenon — for the southernmost city of China, surrounded by the ocean, such natural events are not uncommon.

Ivan Rymar, Vice Consul of the Russian Consulate General in Guangzhou, announced on August 25 that hundreds of Russian tourists were stranded in Hainan due to typhoon Kajiki. All the tourists who could not return were accommodated in hotels.

As of August 25, more than 100,000 people were injured due to Typhoon Kajiki on China's southern island of Hainan. At the moment, there are no fatalities. The China News newspaper clarified that in the city of Sanya, more than 20 thousand trees were toppled or tilted due to the typhoon.

In addition, tens of thousands of residents were evacuated from several areas of Vietnam due to the approach of the typhoon. The authorities have mobilized more than 16,500 soldiers to assist in the evacuation and conduct search and rescue operations. It was expected that as a result of the typhoon, some buildings may be damaged, and some may even collapse, as the wind strength will be about 12-14 points.
