About 15 million Russians have applied for self-locking loans through the Gosuslug portal. This was announced by the press service of the office of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko on Monday, August 25, following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"To date, about 15 million Russians have self—imposed restrictions on loans and borrowings through the public services portal since March 1 of this year," the Moscow City News Agency quoted the report as saying.

Grigorenko noted that self-locking through the Gosuslug portal does not allow fraudsters to take out a loan remotely.

A self-lock can be installed on any consumer loans and borrowings. Restrictions can be either complete or partial. So, you can only prohibit remote loan processing. Starting in September of this year, Russians will also be able to install a self-lock on SIM cards through the portal.

On August 24, it was reported that the cell numbers of Russian citizens linked to Gosuslug accounts would be checked for relevance. It was clarified that the initiative could help in the fight against fraudsters gaining access to other people's accounts. The task of checking cell numbers was assigned to the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Economic Development, Roskomnadzor and the FSB. The deadline is the fourth quarter of 2026.
