The premiere of the film "Sudoplatov. Chronicles of the secret war through the eyes of an eyewitness" will be held on September 6 on REN TV

Exactly 80 years ago, on September 7, 1945, the first and last joint Victory Parade of the allied forces of the USSR, the USA, Great Britain and France took place in Berlin. Why did the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition never gather to celebrate the defeat of Nazism after that day? Pavel Sudoplatov (1907-1996), the legendary Soviet intelligence officer and saboteur, has the answer to this question. His last interview formed the basis of a documentary film from NMG DOCK "SUDOPLATOV. CHRONICLES OF THE SECRET WAR THROUGH THE EYES OF AN EYEWITNESS." In a unique 10-hour interview, the 86-year-old retired lieutenant general of Soviet intelligence spoke about the operations that reshaped the world and about the people behind the key events of the 20th century.

Details of the most secret missions and behind-the-scenes games of the "allies" on the eve of World War II will be heard from their witness and direct participant.

In the 1930s, the influence of the Nazis increased in Germany, and the German secret services deployed a large-scale espionage network in neighboring countries. The weapon in their secret war against the USSR was the Ukrainian nationalists from the OUN, who were being trained to carry out terrorist attacks. In response, Soviet intelligence infiltrated the nationalist leadership with an agent in order to eliminate OUN leader Yevgeny Konovalets and destabilize the organization. Pavel Sudoplatov will talk about the details of the operation, which Stalin personally instructed him to carry out. He will also reveal the nuances of another task of the leader – the elimination of the main ideological opponent of the Soviet government, Leon Trotsky.

Sudoplatov will recall another landmark episode on the eve of the war: in 1940, Britain and France planned to attack the USSR from three directions – the northern, Far Eastern and southern. According to the plan of Operation Spear, the massive bombing was to target seaports, as well as oil fields in the Caucasus. Thanks to information from NKVD agents in the highest echelons of European power, this was avoided.

In addition, Sudoplatov will shed light on the true causes of the Winter War with Finland, naming those who ignited this conflict in the hope of presenting the USSR as a "colossus with feet of clay" and thereby encouraging Hitler to attack.

The memories of an intelligence legend, unique documents that have been rumored for almost 60 years, and a chronicle that will appear on wide screens for the first time – these testimonies will forever change the familiar view of the events of the past and help to understand the roots of modern geopolitical conflicts.
