Discomfort while sleeping on your side is not a symptom of tumorous, malignant and non-malignant liver formations. It is unlikely that tumors can somehow influence the choice of sleeping position and problems with the spleen. Alexander Goev, an associate professor of the Department of Fundamental Medical Disciplines at the State University of Education, an oncologist, told Izvestia on August 26.

"Heaviness and discomfort in the right hypochondrium may indicate a non-specific symptom of problems in the pancreato-biliary zone. Most often, such symptoms are characteristic of gallstone disease and chronic calculous cholecystitis or acute cholecystitis, that is, inflammation of the gallbladder," the oncologist drew attention.

In addition, according to him, if it is not very comfortable to sleep on one side, it is worth checking for osteochondrosis.

By itself, a small liver tumor does not cause any symptoms. Symptoms may appear only in later stages, when the tumor blocks the bile ducts. Most often, the leading symptom, for example, of cholangiocarcinoma (one of the types of liver malignancies) is the appearance of jaundice, that is, patients' eyes turn yellow, urine darkens and stools lighten.

"If we take other types of malignant liver tumors, then the symptoms may also be heaviness in the right hypochondrium and pain, but at later stages," the doctor added.

Heaviness in the right or left hypochondrium, whether or not dependent on food, is a symptom that should prompt a person to at least consult a doctor and have an ultrasound of the abdominal organs. It is better to consult a general practitioner or therapist for the appointment of an initial diagnostic search, concluded Goev.

Oncologist at the Sberbank Health medical company, Suna Isakova, said on February 13 that the primary measures for cancer prevention include quitting smoking, alcohol, going to the solarium, as well as weight control, a balanced diet, the use of sunscreen and regular physical activity.
