Participation in the Bosphorus Strait swim carried great risks due to strong underwater currents. On August 25, a friend of Russian Nikolai Svechnikov, who went missing during the swim, told Izvestia about this.

"You need to understand the realities of the Bosphorus, it's really a very large expanse of water. <...> There are crazy undercurrents," the man pointed out.

According to him, rescuers are likely to limit themselves to the coastline during the search.

The disappearance of Russian swimmer Svechnikov during a swim through the Bosphorus Strait became known earlier that day. According to one version, the man could have had a leg cramp, after which he was carried away by the current. The missing Russian was reported to the police and hospitals. The Coast Guard is currently searching for the swimmer.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
