Payment by cards of the Russian Mir payment system in Iran will be available throughout the country until the end of 2025. This was stated in an interview with TASS by Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali.

"We have already passed three stages of integration, the last one remains. And we will complete it by the end of 2025," the diplomat said.

Work on connecting Russian and Iranian payment systems has been underway since 2024. As previously reported by the head of the Central Bank of Iran, Mohammad Reza Farzin, the integration takes place in three stages.

The first one has already allowed Shetab cardholders to withdraw rubles from Russian ATMs. The second stage will open the possibility for Russians to pay for purchases in Iran with Mir cards. After the completion of the third stage, Iranian cards will be able to be used for payments in Russia.

Earlier, on August 11, it was reported about technical interruptions in payment by cards, including Mir, in the morning hours until November 3 in Cuba. This measure was taken in order to increase card processing performance and improve the performance of POS terminals. It also followed from the Cubadebate portal that the restrictions would not affect the sale of fuel at gas stations in Cuban pesos.
