Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu held telephone talks with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Gharib Abadi at the invitation of the Iranian side. This was announced on August 24 by the press service of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

The main topic of the conversation was the situation around the Iranian nuclear program.

Ma Zhaoxu noted that the issue is "at a critical crossroads" and stressed the need to continue diplomatic efforts.

"China hopes that all interested parties will resolve the issue through political and diplomatic means and create conditions for the resumption of dialogue," he said.

Abadi, in turn, praised Beijing's role in promoting peace initiatives and expressed Tehran's readiness to "further strengthen communication and coordination with China" to find a sustainable solution.

Earlier, on August 20, it was reported that Iran, Russia and China were negotiating a nuclear deal with Britain, France and Germany. Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, noted that the countries had come to the conclusion that UN Security Council Resolution 2231 was illegal.
