A helicopter fell into a pond and crashed while extinguishing a fire in France.
While extinguishing a fire in the French department of Finisterre, a Morane 29 helicopter crashed into a pond. The pilot and the fire officer got out of the cockpit safely and survived, Le Parisien newspaper reported on August 24.
"While scooping, the helicopter came into contact with the surface of the water, which caused the car to fall," the Finisterre Prefecture said.
The authorities clarified that the crew returned to shore "unharmed."
"The professionalism, composure and courage of the pilot and officer on board are highly commendable," said Prefect Louis Le Franck, Department President Mael de Calan and First Vice President of SDIS Jean-Marc Pouchois.
The Morane 29 helicopter has been used for firefighting since 2023. This summer, he participated in 33 sorties and carried out 154 water discharges, which eliminated dozens of fires and prevented the spread of fires across France.
Earlier, on August 23, while trying to rescue a Russian woman stuck on Victory Peak in Kyrgyzstan, a helicopter with a rescue team crashed. The head of the first organized rescue expedition, Alexander Semenov, told about the injuries of everyone who was in the helicopter.
