140 people were arrested on the first day of the Notting Hill Carnival.
The first day of the Notting Hill Carnival in London ended with 140 arrests, 40% more than a year ago. The violations include assaults on police officers, possession of weapons and drugs, as well as sexual offenses. This was reported by the Daily Mail on August 24.
"We are recording an increase in the number of incidents, but we will continue to apply all available security measures," the police said.
According to the agency, 15 arrests are related to attacks on police officers. One of the injured officers was hospitalized with an arm injury.
Of the total number of arrests, about 105 occurred directly at the carnival, and 35 on its outskirts. More than ten became possible thanks to the real-time facial recognition system, which was first massively used at the event.
Earlier, on August 4, it was reported that two people died at a party after the Hard Summer techno music festival in Los Angeles. One man died on the spot, and a woman died of her injuries in the hospital. The remaining six victims were taken to the hospital in critical condition. An unknown person started shooting.
