Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram messenger, announced on August 24 that a year after his detention, the French investigation could not find anything of which he or Telegram were guilty.

"A year later, the "criminal investigation" against me is still trying to find at least something that I or Telegram did wrong. Our moderation procedures comply with industry standards, and Telegram has always responded to all legally binding requests from France," Durov wrote on his Telegram channel.

He noted that he was detained due to a mistake by the French police, who did not send a single request to the messenger until August 2024 as part of the necessary legal procedures. Durov admitted that he still needs to return to France every 14 days.

"Unfortunately, the only result of my arrest was a huge damage to the image of France as a free country," he stressed.

On June 9, the founder of the messenger, during an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, called his imprisonment in France a mistake. According to the entrepreneur, he was aware that the French authorities were concerned about Telegram's "alleged lack of response to court requests." However, as he later realized, this was not the case, because the messenger had never received legally binding requests from Paris.

In August 2024, Durov was detained at Le Bourget airport in Paris. He was charged with a number of crimes, including drug distribution, crimes against children, money laundering and fraud. At the same time, he was released from custody on his own recognizance and bail in the amount of € 5 million. During the investigation, the court seized his passports and ordered him to live in Paris at a specific address.
