Hungary calls on Ukraine to stop threats against Budapest and attacks on the country's critical energy supply infrastructure, which Hungary regards as an attack on its sovereignty. This was announced on August 24 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

"In recent days, Ukraine has launched serious attacks on the security of our energy supplies, and attacks on energy security should be interpreted as attacks on sovereignty," Szijjarto wrote on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

He also published a fragment of a press conference at which Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky said that friendship between Hungary and Ukraine depends on Budapest's position on Kiev's accession to the European Union (EU). According to the diplomat, Zelensky used the Ukrainian national holiday, Independence Day, to grossly threaten Hungary.

"We call on Vladimir Zelensky to stop his threats against Hungary and not put our energy security at risk," Szijjarto stressed.

Szijjarto announced on August 22 that the Druzhba oil pipeline, which supplies Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia, had stopped working again after a Ukrainian attack on its infrastructure located on Russian territory.

On the same day, US President Donald Trump told Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban that he was "very angry" over Ukraine's strikes on the Druzhba oil pipeline, through which Hungary receives oil from Russia.
