The tourist group that disappeared in the area of the Baransky volcano on the island of Iturup in the Sakhalin region was not registered, a source told Izvestia on August 24.

It is assumed that tourists could "take a wrong turn" due to very heavy fog. According to the source, the guide accompanying the group was in this area for the first time.

According to the Unified Duty Dispatch Service (EDDS) of the Kuril Municipal District, the search is underway, and the military has joined them. They also added that there is no information about the group yet.

The loss of a tour group of 10 people was reported earlier that day. According to Konstantin Istomin, the head of the Kurilsky Municipal District (MO) of the Sakhalin Region, the tourist group did not get in touch in the area of the Baransky volcano.
