For several weeks, Pentagon officials have been discussing options for deploying National Guard troops in Chicago as part of US President Donald Trump's initiative to combat crime, illegal migrants and the homeless. This was reported by The Washington Post (WP) on August 23.

"The plans, which have not been previously disclosed, include several options, including the mobilization of at least several thousand National Guard troops as early as September," the publication says.

It is specified that if the relevant plans are approved, the operation may be identical to the introduction of 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 active Marines in Los Angeles, which happened earlier despite the objections of local authorities.

Earlier, on August 12, it was reported that National Guard troops had arrived in Washington to fight crime. It was clarified that all forces placed on high alert are ready for possible clashes.

On August 22, Trump announced the absence of murders in Washington a week after the National Guard was deployed. According to the politician, he was tired of talking about safe living conditions in Washington before the intervention of the current American administration, as it was "unsafe and terrible" there.
