The US Navy's Boeing E-6 Mercury Doomsday aircraft was stationed at Pituffik Base in Greenland. This was reported by Newsweek magazine on August 23, citing a military statement.

"The strategic forces of the US Navy conduct global operations in coordination with combat commands, services, allies and partner countries, even in the Far North," said Commander Jason Fisher, a representative of the US submarine forces.

It is reported that this is due to the conduct of exercises in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. At the same time, there had never been such an aircraft at the airbase before.

The aircraft is capable of maintaining communication with strategic submarines in the event of a nuclear war. It is specified that the E-6B aircraft are assigned to the first strategic communications wing at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma.

Earlier, on August 21, an American F/A-18D Hornet fighter jet exploded at the Kuantan Air Base in Malaysia. It is noted that measures have been taken. Both pilots managed to eject.
