Trump approves sale of 3,350 missiles to Ukraine for $850 million
The administration of US President Donald Trump has approved the supply of 3,350 extended-range ERAM missiles to Ukraine for a total of $850 million. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal on August 23.
The range of the new missiles ranges from 241 to 450 kilometers. For their use, Kiev will need permission from the Pentagon. Most of the purchase costs are borne by Ukraine's European allies.
The delivery of the missiles was postponed until Trump's talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska and with Vladimir Zelensky in Washington. In addition to ERAM, other unspecified types of weapons are included in the package.
"Although the United States has not announced plans to supply additional missiles, other types of weapons purchased by the European authorities from the United States may help Ukraine.… These include air defense systems and guided multiple launch rocket systems with a range of 145 kilometers," the newspaper noted.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Pentagon has been blocking Ukraine's use of long-range ATCMS missiles for several months to launch attacks on Russian territory. American and British sources also announced the extension of the lockdown to Storm Shadow missiles.
