Sergeant Zaitsev discovered and destroyed a sabotage and reconnaissance group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Corporal Nikita Zaitsev was monitoring the airspace on the front line of defense when he noticed a reconnaissance drone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) approaching the Russian positions. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on Sunday, August 24, told about the exploits of Russian servicemen in the area of the special military operation (SVO).

Zaitsev established contact with the command to clarify the identity of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and make sure that no Russian drones were currently in the air. After receiving confirmation that it was an enemy drone, Zaitsev opened fire on the target with small arms. The downed drone crashed away from the Russian positions, without harming personnel and equipment.

The Russian Defense Ministry also noted the timely and professional actions of Sergeant Alexei Kovalev, who was on combat duty and discovered a sabotage and reconnaissance group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the location of his unit.

Kovalev noticed that the enemy group consisted of about 10 people and was secretly moving in a nearby forest plantation, presumably with the aim of striking Russian positions from the flank. Kovalev immediately contacted the command, warned about the threat, after which he took a convenient position and opened fire on the enemy with small arms. As a result of a short battle, the AFU group was completely destroyed.

Earlier, on August 23, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Senior Sergeant Radik Sadyrov commanded an assault group and was tasked with securing a new position in the forest belt when the Ukrainian Armed Forces decided to launch a counterattack and try to regain lost territories.

Prior to that, on August 22, the defense ministry told how Senior Sergeant Dmitry Denisov, at the head of an assault group, was securing the territory liberated from the Ukrainian Armed Forces when he noticed an approaching enemy FPV drone.
