Scammers began to actively use Google Meet to deceive Russians. This was announced on August 23 in the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

"Having received a blow to the main communication channel, the scammers did not stop their activities, but began an active search for workarounds. These are organized criminal groups whose income depends on constant contact with citizens. Their infrastructure (call centers, databases, proven schemes) cannot be idle, which forces them to adapt quickly," the department's Telegram channel says.

UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also noted a sharp increase in international calls from scammers via traditional cellular communications. Thus, the number of such unwanted calls increased by 83%.

It is noted that the attackers are interested in Google Meet, firstly, because it is almost impossible to obtain information from an American company to conduct criminal investigations. Secondly, this application is pre-installed on most Android smartphones, which makes it easier for fraudsters to install an "unknown" application.

Earlier, on August 22, it was reported that intruders were stealing funds from Russians, offering them "employment" through messengers and social networks. Scammers send out letters with job offers allegedly in an international company, conduct a short "test" or "interview" in messengers and register the victim on a fake corporate portal, where she performs simple tasks.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
