Two actions took place in Armenia near the Gyumri military base
Protests have begun in the Armenian city of Gyumri near the 102nd Russian military base. This was announced on August 23 by Izvestia correspondent Alexander Nadsadny.
Police are holding a cordon around the perimeter of the base, and protesters with placards are demanding the withdrawal of the Russian military from the territory of Armenia and calling them a threat to the country.
"And I have a suspicion that over time there may be a new reorientation of the objectives of this military base, so that instead of protecting the country from an external threat, it will become an internal threat," said Arman Babajanyan, chairman of the For the Sake of the Republic party, an independent member of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation.
Mika Badalyan, a public figure and activist, stressed that the protests at the Gyumri military base are part of systematic anti-Russian actions in Armenia sponsored by the European Union (EU).
The military base has been located in Gyumri since 1992 and ensures the security of Armenia, as well as protects Russia's southern borders in accordance with the agreement, which is valid until 2044.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on July 16 that the country's withdrawal from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is more likely than the restoration of membership in it.
