A tourist who danced on a flagpole in Cappadocia is facing jail time. This was reported by the Sabah newspaper on August 23.

The footage shows a girl climbing a flagpole and performing acrobatic tricks. According to the newspaper, the "inappropriate" movements caused a public outcry in Turkey, as the dance was performed on one of the important symbols of the region, which is included in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. In this regard, the Turkish authorities have opened a criminal case due to the "inappropriate behavior" of a foreign citizen.

"The flag is our honor, the light of our eyes... Such disrespect for our national and spiritual values is never acceptable," the newspaper quoted Justice and Development Party deputy Emre Chalishkan as saying.

As specified by "Gazeta.Ru", the girl may face imprisonment from one to three years. The name of the tourist and her nationality were not disclosed.

Earlier, on May 31, in China, a tourist damaged the figures of two ancient clay warriors of the ancient Terracotta army. He climbed over the fence and jumped into a pit up to 5.4 m deep to the figures of soldiers in the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang. The man "pushed and pulled" the clay warriors, as a result of which two of them were injured.
